Apple Mac Book Smaller than Ever with an Optical Disc Drive at the bottom
Last week Apple announced plans to release a new, smaller Apple Mac Book. According to AppleInsider, Apple has been trying to come up with ways of making their notebook PCs smaller. One such way that they have come up with, and will soon be patented, is to place the balky optical disc drive(ODD) at the very bottom of the laptop, instead of along the side edge of the laptop like is typically done in laptops.
Some people have questioned this idea, as it makes it somewhat harder to use the ODD. However, whatever small inconvenience this causes users, Apple more than makes up for it with a thinner laptop that is easier to handle.
The idea of placing the ODD on the bottom is a new one. Many other companies have sought to make thinner laptops, but didn’t know if placing the ODD in a different spot than on the side was a good idea. Since Apple came up with this unique idea, they have applied for a patent on it.
The new Apple Mac Books with bottom ODDs come with a mobile motion module, which prevents users from accidentally opening the ODD. There is also a user interface with a sensor which uses user contact to initiate the opening of the ODD.
Only time will tell if this move pans out and if people will buy these new, different Mac Books.
