Dell Is The First Company To Add Anti-Theft Security To Its Notebooks
According to a press release issued today, Dell and Absolute Software got together to make available theft recovery services to Dell’s US consumer customers. This way, Dell becomes “the first PC manufacturer to deliver a higher degree of peace of mind by combining theft recovery measures with accidental damage protection”. OK, this sounds excellent, but I am sure you all need to hear more than just words, so here’s the real thing…
From now on, once you have purchased a Dell Inspirion notebook and added the CompleteCare Accidental Damage Service to your order, an option priced between 99$ and 139$, you will also receive the Computrace LoJack for Laptops theft recovery service, having a value ranging from 49$ to 119$.
While the CompleteCare service provides coverage for potential problems not covered by the standard limited warranty, including spills, drops and electrical surges, the Computrace LoJack gives you the certainty that if your laptop gets stolen or lost, the security software will helps tracking it down, as well as protect your personal data.
A student at the University of Massachusets, Dawn Burnett, is one of those that had his notebook saved by one of these services, since some time after purchasing both CompleteCare and the LoJack with his Dell notebook, the computer got stolen from his dorm room, but “The companies came to my rescue. Absolute tracked down and recovered my computer, and Dell fixed the damage that occurred during the theft.”
Sometimes, it is good to know that the company that you bought your computer from will stand by your side while you use it, and John Livingston, chairman and CEO of Absolute Software, seems to get this point perfectly. Regarding the exposure to identity theft and data loss due to theft or loss of the computer, he said that “Dell clearly understands this risk and has become the first PC manufacturer to offer an integrated accidental damage and theft recovery solution to help protect its customers.”
At last, if you want to purchase the Computrace LoJack for Laptops as a standalone product, then you can find it on the Dell Software and Peripherals site, priced between 49$ and 139$, and in case you were wondering about Dell’s service and support, it’s a pleasure for me to add that they received the Computer Shopper 2006 Shoppers’ Choice Award for best customer service and support, crowning their $150 million efforts in improving the service and support provided to their customers.
