A taste of the future with Asus
While Apple announced it’s going to start using LED-backlit displays on its MacBook Pro line of laptops really soon, it seems they are not the only ones to do this. In fact, while we weren’t able to find out when this is scheduled to happen, Asus seems to know where, when and what, and so do we.
CeBIT, the world’s largest computer expo, is held on the fairground in Hanover, Germany and this year’s edition is expected to have over half a million visitors, so it sounds like a good oportunity to launch a new product, don’t you think? It seems Asus agrees with me, and if you’re going to be there between the 15th and the 21st of March, you should encounter their upcoming U1F laptop.
The details available at this time about Asus U1F sound really interesting, since the notebook weighs only 2.2 pounds, featuring an 11.1 inch WXGA+ LED-backlit screen, black motif, steel edges, leather-clad palm rests and an ultra-low voltage Intel Core Duo processor under the hood. Fortunately for some, unfotunately for others, the U1F will come with Windows Vista pre-installed.
What I just mentioned are the first details that emerged about this future laptop from Asus, and the latest news sound even better - leaving aside the LED backlight of the 5mm thick LCD, the dimensions of the laptop itself are something to be worthy of your attention, since the U1F is 18mm thick, but this is only the beginning.
Despite the fact that the storage solutions offered range between 40 and 80GB, you can get an external disc drive able to read and write all discs available on the market, including the Blu-Ray. The Core Duo processor is a U2400, working together with a Intel 945GM Express chipset. The connectivity features include gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR and A2DP, as well as Intel a/b/g WiFi.
As expected, the LED backlight boosts display lightness and response time, with lower power consumption than the traditional LCD, and the ASUS Power4 Gear eXtreme software management helps the U1F to achieve a battery life up to 25 percent longer than most traditional laptops.
Unfortunately, there is no word on availability to the consumers or price yet, but I can assure you that we’ll keep you informed!
