Apple Spring New(bie)s
I don’t know about your location, but I feel the spring is already here, and this makes me think about Apple’s spring. The reason is that this year’s spring may be the best one so far for the Cupertino-based company, and the main reason is the iPhone, but things are much bigger than just that…

Anyway, since I mentioned the iPhone, let me tell you about it first. Of course that you all have heard about the amazing features that come with this device, but it’s not that. The main question now is “When”, and according to some rumors, we may have the iPhone earlier than expected. The informers that were talking about this say that US residents may be able to get an iPhone from Apple before next month’s end, so keep your eyes open!

Next, it seems that Apple’s sales are better than ever, and having new products is “a must”. Unfortunately, my favorite future products, the black iMacs, don’t have an accurate time of appeareance known to the public, but it’s good to know that such a thing will become available this spring, or maybe this summer.

Since Windows Vista created such a shock wave in the press, despite the fact that I don’t consider it a big step forward, the new version of Apple’s operating system, Mac OS X Leopard, must be a hit. It can’t do anything else than push Apple even higher, thanks to the voices saying that Vista is a Mac OS rip off. If we are lucky, the Leopard may be available early this summer, or even by the end of this spring, but I hope they’ll take the required time to give us a new file system, because this was my greatest expectation from Vista and they dropped it somewhere along the road…
Leaving all the design prizes aside (3dfx also got some technology related prizes for its VSA-100 chip before declaring its bankruptcy), Apple has all the spotlights on its actions and products at this time, and also the resources to keep it up. Last earning reports from Apple revealed about 12 billion dollars in cash and short-term investments, and the last thing I wish to see this spring from Apple is a new iPod.

Why a new iPod? I know, they sold almost 90 million units so far, but I must admit that the coloured shuffles took me by surprise. I expected more, and I know that I will get more, and I am not talking only about the iPod, but Apple has to move fast.If Mac OS Leopard comes in time to deliver the OpenGL performance that Vista doesn’t have yet, and the new iPods manage to add the last nine inch nail to Zune’s coffin, Apple may gain an important advantage over Microsoft.
At last, it seems that 2007’s spring is going to be a really hot one for all technology freaks out there, but not only for them. If I can get something better than my five-years old desktop computer running Windows XP, I will get it, and its name may be “Mac”, for me and many others, if Steve Jobs’ company plays the cards right. Good luck, Apple, we’ll be waiting for the autumn apple crop!
