Samsung laptops will get external video cards!
The way things look at this time, achieving extreme performance in a laptop is not possible without proper cooling, and the best solution is to take out the components that heat up the most, and the video card is one of them. Samsung’s upcoming notebooks, Q45 and R70, are going to feature the currently unknown external nVIDIA GeForce GO 8000M series graphics card for that extra punch of performance that always welcomed, especially when you want to play Battlefield 2142 or Gothic 3 on the road…
Samsung revealed in its CeBIT 2007 web pages that the Q45 is going to be a 12.1 inch ultra-portable, while the R70 will have a 15.4 inch widescreen display, and both will feature HDMI output for playing high definition multimedia content.
Despite the fact that no accurate information about the forthcoming GeForce GO 8000M video card seems to be available at this time, it doesn’t take an oracle to figure out that most chances are this is going to be a DirectX 10 card, just like its desktop counterpart that’s already available.
At this time, there’s only one external video solution for laptops announced, the Asus XG Station, so Samsung’s Q45 and R70 are going to be the second and third laptops to walk this path.
Powered by Intel Core 2 Duo processors, Samsung’s notebooks are scheduled for release during the first half of this year, and their additional features include Intel’s Next-Gen Wireless N and an optional DVB-T (Digital Video Broadcasting - Terrestrial) module, for R70, while the smaller Q45 will be able of HSDPA and WiBRO wireless connections, having an optional DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) module.
At last, you should hold on for now if you’re thinking about getting the Q45 or the R70, because there’s no information about pricing available at this time.
